Past patients were invited to provide testimonials and some of our practitioners were interviewed. The intent is to give new amputees a better handle on the practical and physiological aspects of what they can expect after surgery. It is designed to help patients understand and better deal with the unknown that all amputees experience.

June 3-Arimed was invited to attend the 143rd Anniversary Celebration of the Brooklyn Bureau of Community Service. The event recognized the BBCS’s job training and placement services for people with disabilities and the employers who put them to work.

Arimed has had a long standing practice of employing individuals with disabilities who have great attitudes and can get the job done. Employees such as these make up the diverse team that has gotten Arimed to it’s 60th Anniversary. From the manufacturing side that builds the prosthetic and orthotic devices to one of our prosthetists in patient care to marketing, these employees are important to our company.

Arimed Orthotics and Prosthetics offer the latest information on prosthetics, orthotics, and patient care. We often hold sessions where our experienced practitioners give talks and show samples of braces and prosthetics.

Recently, Arimed was asked to provide a full in-service at our Brooklyn facility for 15 rehabilitation residents from SUNY Downstate Medical. The first section was on orthotics presented by one of our orthotists, Steven Mirones. It was followed by a presentation on prosthetics by our prosthetists, Bill Goldberg. Then special guest, Derek Dominici, demonstrated an advanced prosthetic hand called the iLimb. Finally, the residents had a chance to tour our lab where we manufacture custom braces and assemble the prosthesis. They had a chance to see Arimed’s talented lab techs do their jobs.

If you are interested in having Arimed provide you with the latest information in orthotics and prosthetics, please contact any of our offices for more info. We are committed to educating New York City.

Wed, Feb 18, The Rusk Amputee Support Group in New York City had their first social outing. The group was started last year as a monthly gathering for amputees and their families at the Rusk Rehabilitation institute. Drs. Jeff Cohen and Jeff Heckman started the group to meet the needs of their patients for more information and support to living as an amputee in the big city.

The support group had their first social bowling outing at the Chelsea Piers complex in Manhattan. Arimed is glad to be able to sponsor the social outing and the cohesive endeavors of the amputee support group.

Rusk Amputee Support Group grin during bowling outing at Chelsea Piers.

The NYU/Rusk Amputee Support Group’s mission is to supply information and educational resources for its members while fostering an environment for social networking, peer mentoring and volunteer opportunities. A monthly meeting provides a forum for amputees to share their experiences and concerns on a diverse range of issues. At each session, healthcare team members from the Rusk Institute include resident and attending physicians, psychologists, social workers, physical, occupational and recreational therapists and vocational counselors who work together with amputees, friends and family members.

Monthly meetings are held the 2nd to last Thursday of every month from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Rusk Institute (400 E. 34th St.) on the first floor in room 111. All are welcome.

He had assembled forty Brooklynnites who have helped to better Brooklyn each in their own special way. You can watch this event on Tuesday night February17th, 2009 at 7:30pm in a rebroadcast on BCAT, channel 56 (Time Warner), 69 (Cablevision), 84 (RCN) and 44 (Verizon).

It began with variety entertainment and continued with the Borough President’s speech where he highlighted each individual. Be patient Arimed was mentioned virtually last. I highly recommend watching it. It will give you a good feeling about NYC and its citizens.
