Each month, HealthBeat Brooklyn explores a different health care issue and how it affects the lives of people in Brooklyn. The show looks at the impact of specific illnesses while also addressing such topics as prevention, healthy lifestyle, access to primary care and health care disparities across economic strata. Recently, they featured Arimed on an episode to discuss the company & what it is we do.

Arimed developed a patient-centered video featuring our prosthetic patients. Past patients were invited to provide testimonials and some of our practitioners were interviewed. The intent is to give new amputees a better handle on the practical and physiological aspects of what they can expect after surgery. It is designed to help patients understand and better deal with the unknown that all amputees experience.

      Outfitted with the latest in high-tech equipment, the new ER will house a pediatric care center, urgent care center, trauma care center, decontamination and isolation areas. The higher capacity and efforts to streamline the admittance process will improve healthcare for Staten Islanders.

The topic on the May 14th meeting was an update on “Contemporary Spinal Trauma Management” led by Alexander Vaccaro (MD, PhD)

Arimed’s participation included providing prosthetic and orthotic devices  so that course participants have a chance to gain hands-on experience with the devices after just learning about them. Bill Goldberg, prosthetist at Arimed, also spoke on a panel regarding prescription rational for prostheses.

New York University’s Langone Medical Center is one of the most prominent medical teaching institutions in the country.

This topic was designed for all physicians, residents, physician assistants, physical and occupational therapists, orthotists, and all others involved in the care of patients with musculoskeletal conditions. Speakers are notable orthopedic surgeons chosen for their extensive knowledge on the subject at hand. Very often, they are selected from New York City and currently practice in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Staten Island, Queens, and the Bronx. Arimed practitioners attend the quarterly meetings to stay current on the topics.

The academy is known nationally and internationally for providing superior clinical and scientific education in orthotics and prosthetics. Arimed believes it is very important to keep our practitioners educated in the most up to date practices to provide our patients with the best care in New York City.

It began with variety entertainment and continued with the Borough President’s speech where he highlighted each individual. Be patient Arimed was mentioned virtually last. I highly recommend watching it. It will give you a good feeling about NYC and its citizens.
