Orthotics
Orthotics are defined as the science of external support of the limbs and torso.
ARIMED uses state-of-the art, space-age technology to build lightweight, cosmetic and ergonomic orthoses to complement your lifestyle.
Lower Extremity Orthoses: Lower Extremity Orthoses: These custom-made plastic, carbon graphite and composite material bracing systems contribute to the biomechanical harmony required for maximum potential, improve skeletal alignment and permit more normal function. They also reduce energy consumption and aid in safe ambulation (walking).
Ankle Foot Orthoses: The primary function of all Ankle Foot Orthoses (AFO) is to control the alignment and motions of the foot and ankle. An AFO assists in safe and energy-conserving ambulation. A large variety of materials and joints are available and are used in specific combinations to address the unique needs of each individual.
Knee Ankle Foot Orthoses: When significant knee instability or deformity is present, a Knee Ankle Foot Orthosis (KAFO) is designed to provide joint stability and alignment as well as mechanical efficiency, in preparation for walking. These include:
-Plastic Ankle Foot Orthoses (AFO)
-Plastic Knee Ankle Foot Orthoses (KAFO)
-Pneumatic ankle supports
-Dynamic Ankle Foot Orthoses
-Reciprocating Gait Orthoses
-Hip abduction orthoses
-Patella Tendon Bearing Orthoses (PTBO)
-UCBL-University of California Biomechanics Lab insert
-SMO- Supramalleolar Orthosis.
Hip Knee Ankle Foot Orthosis: When significant hip instability or deformity is present, a Hip Knee Ankle Foot Orthosis (HKAFO) is designed to provide joint stability and alignment, as well as mechanical efficiency in preparation for walking.
Reciprocating Gait Orthosis (RGO): The objective of the reciprocating gait design is to provide a more natural and efficient method of ambulation. This is accomplished by coupling the left and right orthoses (KAFO) in such a manner that hip extension in either one tends to force the other hip joint into flexion, providing coordinated motion between the legs. This makes possible a “reciprocating” gait. The individual wearing an RGO can walk upright and stand hands free. The individual’s bones are stronger because the RGO allows them to bear weight. Hip contractures are minimized because the RGO also stretches the legs with every step. i.e individuals become healthier because being vertical prevents pressure sores, reduces the risk of urinary tract infections and aids pulmonary-cardiovascular function. In short, the RGO vertical advantage provides the freedom to lead a fuller, healthier and more satisfying life.
HIP ORTHOSES
Hip Abduction Orthosis: The most common application of hip orthosis is to control femoral adduction flexion. This type of orthosis is prescribed postsurgically for elderly patients, to control hip position after total hip replacement. Certain revision hip replacements require control of the hip in flexion/extension and abduction/adduction.
We also provide orthoses for congenital and developmental dysplasia of pediatric hips.
KNEE ORTHOSES
-Elastic/Neoprene knee supports and stabilizers
-Hinged knee supports
-Knee immobilizers
-Swedish knee cages
-Post-op knee orthoses
-Functional knee orthoses: Cti2, Donjoy, Townsend, Breg, Bledsoe
-Osteoarthritis knee orthoses: G-II, Bledsoe, Lenox Hill
PEDIATRICS
ARIMED offers a full line of custom-made orthoses for kids. ARIMED takes the time to design and fabricate each orthosis; we pay attention to details. Each orthosis can be personalized with different color padding, velcro straps, colored plastic and cartoon designs, thereby making the orthoses more appealing to young people. We feel this little something extra helps children enjoy their orthoses more, which in turn helps improve wearing compliance.
CERVICAL ORTHOTICS
From simple to complex orthoses that immobilize the cervical spine, commonly known as “neck braces” or “collars,” these devices are used to limit neck motion in order to prevent further injury, limit irritation of existing injury and attempt to relieve pain. They include:
-Soft foam and plastic cervical collars
-Philadelphia collars
-Miami J collars
-Aspen collars
-Low profile Minerva
-Sterno-Occipital -Mandibular Immobilizers (S.O.M.I.)
-Cervical halo devices.
SPINAL ORTHOSES
These are prefabricated devices for moderate back support as well as custom-made braces to limit flexion, extension and rotation. They also include custom- made Thoracic Lumbar Sacral Orthosis (TLSO) and body jackets for treatment of scoliosis and post-op spinal fusion and fractures.
